The History
In April 1995, Founder Nosiseko Phaqa daughter Thembukazi was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP) due to an unfortunate car accident and she sustained severe head injuries. Over the years Nosiseko had to look after her daughter, with not so much Centres at the time around the communities
Nosiseko struggled because she had to look after her own daughter with no help from Centres around the community at those times and she couldn’t find a job as she had to look after the child on her own. Centres around her were not eager to assist her in terms of placement because her child was too big.
After attending a support group at the WCCPA for all mothers/parents of kids with disabilities, she saw that many young mothers were in the same boat like her. These mothers needed placement for their kids with disabilities so that they can sustain their jobs to maintain their families, some wanted to go back to school. This is where this all started. Nosiseko later became the facilitator of the support group and she could not take it anymore and decided to open up her 3 bedroomed house to assist these mothers for a short term period. Due to the demand from the parents, the short term led to the long-term placement until to date.
